$350 USDAntique 18th C French Rococo STRASBOURG Faience Pottery Plate Assiette Louis XV Period 1760 - 1775 Petit Feu

Pottery:Antique:Faience:French:18th Century
A rare and beautiful, six-lobed, faience dinner plate with fleurs chatironnées (contoured flowers) from Strasbourg, France! The great production of "fleurs chatironnées" corresponds to the period of Joseph Hannong, between 1760 and 1775. The flowers, though simplified, are of fine quality and keep the originality of the "fleurs fines" in the offset bouquet and in its composition where one finds the flamboyant pink flower (peony?) and the use of Pourpre de Cassius enamel, accompanied by blue and ...

SOLDSOLD 18th C French Faience pos ROUEN Lambrequins, Rouge de Fer, Pot Jar Urn w Cover

Pottery:Antique:Faience:French
An 18th century, large, covered jar, very possibly from Rouen. (The C marks from Rouen, cited in Tardy, "Poteries et Faiences Francaises," Volume III, are very similar to the mark on this jar.) The ginger jar form has ribbed sides and a large finial sits atop the cover. Under-glaze colors used include a deep blue and iron red, called rouge de fer. A similar example of Rouen lambrequin design is also cited in Tardy, as it appeared on a "Rouen pot avec couvercle" in "bleu fonce' or rouge de fer," ...

Pottery:Antique:Faience:French
A beautiful featheredge plate from the faiencerie at Sceaux near Paris! Examples of 18th-century Sceaux faience are very difficult to find. The small factory at Sceaux was considered one of the best faience producers in France. Its small size has meant that most of its early work is now in museums. The plate was decorated with pastel enamels and fired by the petit feu method. Diameter: c. 9 1/4 in. (23.5 cm.) The plate is in superb condition for its age, with no cracks, hairlines or repairs. ...

Pottery:Antique:Faience:French
A drop-dead gorgeous example of late- 18th century faience from eastern France... possibly Strasbourg or Luneville! The lid bears applied fruits (fuchsia pears!) hanging from a branch with leaves. The stunning, jewel-tone decoration was created by the "petit feu" method, a low-temperature firing technique first created by Paul Hannong at Strasbourg in the middle of the 18th century. Among the pastel enamels used over the blue-gray ground is the important "pourpre de Cassius," a pigment which ...

Another beauty from my recent trip to France: a stunning example of early "fleurs fines" and the petit feu method! (The term means “fine flowers” and refers to the creation by free-hand painting of complex, realistic floral designs on faience.) The plate was created circa 1765 - 1770 by the factory at Niderviller in Lorraine, in eastern France, during the Beyerle period. Baron Jean Louis de Beyerle founded the Niderviller faience factory in 1754. Examples from his time are rare to find and ...

SOLDSOLD Antique 19th C French Faience LES ISLETTES Plate Rare PIG Decor Cochon

Pottery:Antique:Faience:French
The turn-of- the-19th-century animal plates (assiettes) of Les Islettes are the most coveted of all! Produced in limited quantities for only a short period, at the end of the 18th century through the early 19th century, these plates are quite rare to come upon. First in the animal series was the pig, which is the subject of this plate. Other animals in the series were a rabbit, an elephant and a giraffe. Each was typically produced to mark a local event, typically, long since forgotten. Perhaps ...

SOLDSOLD Very Rare 18th C French Rococo Faience NIDERVILLER Louis XV BEYERLE Period Plate Assiette c 1765 - 1770

Pottery:Antique:Faience:French
I recently returned from France with this exquisite and very rare, 18th century, French faience plate, created circa 1765 - 1770 by the factory at Niderviller in Lorraine, during the Beyerle period. Baron Jean Louis de Beyerle founded the faience factory in 1754. He and his aristocratic friends made faience there as a hobby, always placing more emphasis on artistry than on sales or the bottom line. It is considered today as a very fine, "boutique" factory of the period. The works were acquired ...

The tin glaze has a pink tinge from the clay below. Diameter: c. 12 7/8 in. (32.5 cm.) In the year 1728, Jacques Chambrette created ...
