About Us
I was fortunate to grow up in a family that enjoyed collecting, using, and living with their antiques, and started collecting, buying, and selling myself before I was in high school. My selling career took me from my Finger Lakes region of New York state to New York City to sell for many years, where I enjoyed a customer base of American and European customers who bought and used their antique and vintage purchases to bring every-day joy to their lives - rather than collecting things just to have them sit behind glass on a shelf. This aesthetic changed my buying and selling habits forever, and turned my attention more to the useful and beautiful objects that one can live with daily, rather than the rare and valuable items that must be displayed or used with great care, if at all.
With the advent of online selling, I was blessed to be able to enjoy a broader audience, and in no time at all built the same sort of loyal customer base that I enjoyed for many years selling in person – but now from all across the country, rather than just neighborhood antique markets in Manhattan and their regular visitors! I’ve sold online for many years now, and love doing so. I appreciate my many regular customers, and also enjoy the thrill that comes when out shopping, I spot something that I know will be perfect for a particular customer. I’ve decided to move my online presence to Ruby Lane, because I feel it to be a better fit for both me, and my customers, than elsewhere.
My training is particularly in textile, with an emphasis on table linens and lace, and I have the good fortune to have a dear Belgian friend who enjoys hunting for old textile for me while in France, Germany, and Holland, and sends me crates of goodies a few times a year.
Long collecting and business experience starting as a child in the family business have made me knowledgeable on a broad spectrum of antique and vintage items in general. My special love, though, is for tabletop items – porcelain, glass, silver, and linen – and anything that can be made to hold flowers.
Many years ago, I realized that most Americans in years past grew up with silver-plated flatware on their tables, rather than sterling, and that their memories and sentimental attachment to silver patterns were naturally for those plated patterns. You’ll see a great deal of old silver-plated flatware here, and I have hundreds of pattern names committed to memory.
I look forward to adding you to my circle of customers who live with and love their antiques and vintage, and am genuinely happy to bring these things to you. My buyers are who have made it possible for me to enjoy a life of happy self-employment, and an endless treasure hunt – and I very much appreciate them!
