A collection of eight photogravure plates (suitable for framing) of the watercolors of Sir William Russell Flint. Each plate is mounted on heavy paper (heavier than card stock) and is covered by a protective sheet that lists the painting’s name and current (at that time) owner of the original. You get: “The Privileged Three”, “Passing Gleams, Gareloch”, “The Promised Land”, “San Servan”, “A Breton Sea-piece”, “Mistral”, “Faquita, Juanita and Maruja”, and “The Hedonists”.
Hardback, printed in 1928 in Great Britain by Herbert Reiach, Ltd., London: colour photogravure by Waterlow and Sons, Ltd., London. Measures 12” X 9¾”. In very good condition, with bumps to the corners, a small tear on the lower end of spine and a small missing piece on upper end of spine. Interior pages have mild age toning, photogravures are perfect. 3.5 mm
From a website biography: “William Russell Flint (1880-1969) was a Scottish painter who has been referred to as the greatest watercolour artist of his time.
Flint was formally trained in art at the Royal Institution School of Art in Edinburgh and served an apprenticeship at a printing works before moving to London at the age of 20. Before becoming a freelance artist in 1907, Flint worked for the London ‘Illustrated News’ from 1903.
His skills were recognised by the Royal Academy throughout the 1920s and 1930s with election to a variety of positions, including: Associate of the Royal Academy (1924), Member of the Royal Academy (1933), and President of the Royal Academy of Painters in Watercolour (1936).
In 1962 Flint also received a knighthood.”
