Presenting for your review is a fine 1950 complete Print folio of which consists of (8) Mid-Century COSTUME FASHION PRINTS . . . A Color Facsimiles if Famous French Prints . . . by publisher, Camilla Lucas. Sydney Z. Lucas founded Camilia Lucas Publishers and formed the Paris Etching Society which worked out of the garment district in NY selling reproduction fine art prints from their gallery next store.

The folio is a complete color lithographic set of French Costume reproductions. The green cover has faded with time but is still a wonderful fashion folio display from the 19th century.

SUBJECT:

Through the looking glass of fine Fashion has proven ageless. From the earliest days the subject les costumes des dames, not excluding the male of the species who at one time bedecked himself as much if not more resplendently than woman, has filled many pages of books by novelists, philosophers and historians. Many tales hinge on the skirts of fashion, but because of limited space the publishers began their tour of fashion starting with the 1770's and Marie Antoinette through the Napoleon court and the reign of Empress Eugenie 1853. In 1850 the American sewing machine was introduced to Europe. and In England the Prince of Wales visited US in 1860.

Many of the leading salon artists of their time contributed to the color costume prints such as those found in this portfolio. No period was as charming or lavish with costumes as the middle of the 19th century. For this reason the publishers have chosen costume prints of that period.

CONDITION:

The lithographs prints show age toning but are very suitable for framing. This is minor wear to the print edges as seen in photos.

Measurement: Folio Cover and prints - 10" x 13"
