Mr. Philpotts was the first of the characters designed taken from a old drinking song.

Vintage: " A-Series Mug." Produced before World War I in England by Royal Doulton. The mug has no chips, discolorations or cracks.

Description: Dark green hat, gray hair and brown jacket. Measures 8" High x 6 Across. (Jug Opening 5") . MARKINGS: Royal Doulton Lion/Crest - Made in England With an A on the side.

Note: Crown with Lion / A Series.

Introduced in the latter part of 1901 to mark the grant of the Royal Warrant by King Edward VII together with the specific right to use the word ROYAL to designate Doulton products. This mark was in general use at Burslem between 1902 and 1922.
