This antique photo album was a delight to find and intriguing to review. I hope you will agree. Let's start with the inside: the heavy stock pages are decorated with a bamboo and frond and stork oriental theme in celery green with blue accents. Every other page has a simpler bamboo overall design. This definitely has an Arts & Crafts motif to it. There are 32 pages in all. Twenty 4 1/2 x7 cartes de visite (one resource I have refers to this size as promenade) are lovely and haunting in their depiction of children, women and men. There are 9 smaller 2 1/2x4 photos and three small tintypes. From the clothing, I am dating these from the 1870's to 1890's. The photographer identified is G. W. Wise of Janesville, Wisconsin. The album itself measures 8 1/2x11 and is 2" deep. The album is covered in light green velvet with a metal scroll of "Album". The following represents a condition report: half of the 32 pages are undamaged, but half show tears at the point where the picture is inserted. There may be some foxing on some of the photos, but if there is, it is minor. The hasp is missing on the clasp. The velvet cover is in good shape, but is faded in color. This is a heavy one, almost 5 pounds, so shipping will be determined at the time of check-out.
