Robert Saint-Brice was born in Petion-Ville, Haiti in 1893. He was raised Episcopalian, but eventually turned to voodoo and became a houngan (voodoo priest). St. Brice did not begin to paint till after the age of 50 when he was introduced to the work of the French Impressionists. St. Brice is among the elite of Haitian artists whose art is immediately inspired from voodoo, and his came directly from his dreams. His work is expressive, truly original, and highly prized.
