About Us
If you take the back roads to Taos, through Chimayo, you'll pass Truchas--there's a mural on the side of a dilapidated building visible from the crossroads. This mural includes graffiti, images of space ships, aliens, trees and sky, doves, churches, angels, and the Virgin of Guadalupe. Somehow all of these things are pressed together, as unpredictable as they are.

Recently, I took a lot of photos of the mural, focusing on small pieces of it, and one of these pieces has turned into our logo! The mural has become almost a personal symbol for me-- there are so many odd-ball interesting and exciting elements in it. This is what I wish to create-- jewelry that is elegant and exciting, and composed of unpredictable things.

For 25 years, I was a Creative Writing Professor specializing in the teaching of the writing of contemporary poetry. My own strategy as a writer has always been to collect as many diverse words and phrases as possible, filling notebooks with these fragments. I read them, memorize them, and when the time comes, I find that I'm suddenly linking bits and pieces together into something that communicates emotion and meaning beyond the words and phrases as they existed in pieces. The goal for me has always been to add new life to the words around me. I would like to do the same with traditional hand crafted beads from around the world. I'm also learning the art of working with pure silver. Each day I learn something new!

My writing process has spilled over into my process of creating jewelry. I go through the collection phase, then start putting together bits and pieces--in the form of different combinations of beads and components one wouldn't ordinarily see together-- and this inspires me. I am also an avid fan of contemporary painting, and have studied the mechanics of color in contemporary painting, which has added another dimension to my designs.

For many years I was married to a Nobel Laureate physicist and participated and/or co-chaired conferences on the subject of creativity, and the connections between art and science. As a result, my approach to learning is systematic, and my intuitive understanding of how patterns work and incrementally grow is probably more finely tuned than it is for many artisan jewelers.

I've published several books of poetry under the name Marcia Southwick, and have taught poetry writing at the graduate level for the University of Nebraska, the University of Iowa, the University of Colorado and the University of New Mexico. Enough about me! What about the rest of the Boomer Girls out there?

B.Bold was born out of passion, but it was also born out of necessity. Many women in their fifties and above have difficulty shopping for a proper wardrobe. How easy is it for us to find appropriate clothes that don't cost a bundle? Most clothes I see are made for size 2 teens, and I come away from most boutiques feeling discouraged. Don't you?

I've decided to rebel against shopping for anything but the most basic clothes. (I've always had a rebellious streak. . . after all, I'm a Boomer Girl. ) Won't you join me? With the economy the way it is, why not rely on favorite classics that fit well and are well-made? Why not accessorize with bold and beautiful jewelry that LASTS? Clothes wear out. Jewelry doesn't.

Most of my friends in Santa Fe have simplified their lives and style. The custom here is to wear simple basic clothes and beautiful jewelry. One friend recently said "I'm going Johnny Cash tonight." That meant she'd be wearing black with lots of bold jewelry--this is our Santa Fe style.

So, Boomer Girls, I bring my jewelry to you! I hope you enjoy it. I believe that if you wear it, you'll feel and look like a million bucks.
