About Us
If you take the back roads to Taos, through Chimayo, you'll pass Truchas--there's a mural on the side of a dilapidated building visible from the crossroads. This mural includes graffiti, images of space ships, aliens, trees and sky, doves, churches, angels, and the Virgin of Guadalupe. Somehow all of these things are pressed together, as unpredictable as they are.

Recently, I took a lot of photos of the mural, focusing on small pieces of it, and one of these pieces has turned into our logo! The mural has become almost a personal symbol for me-- there are so many odd-ball interesting and exciting elements in it. This is what I wish to create-- jewelry that is alive and exciting.

My life has been full of changes and unpredictable yet somehow inevitable turns. I've been a high-school drop-out, (finally graduated after much struggle) , a 1969 hippie street kid in Boston-- and a wanderer who happened to pass by a building with my name on it. Seriously!

In Boston, near Park Square, there's a brownstone with the name "Southwick" engraved on it. I was curious, of course, and found out that it belonged to Emerson College. I applied on a whim, was accepted, and majored in Creative writing.

As a result of walking down Beacon Street and seeing my name, I became a poet, went to graduate school, published books, became a professor, married a poet, had a child, divorced, remained single for 10 years, kept teaching at universities and conferences, and unpredictably ended up living every summer in Colorado, where I met and married a Nobel Laureate physicist with whom I spend many happy years and traveled the world. Our base was in Santa Fe.

Looking back, I can see that my life had begun to lose its center. My life wasn't really mine. Eventually I set myself free, retired from teaching, and moved to New York, to be close to my family in Old Lyme Connecticut. I love the East Coast but was so homesick for Santa Fe that I felt the way I did the first time I spent the night at my best friend's house when I was five. ( My mother had to come get me at midnight).

Within six months I was back in Santa Fe beneath blue skies.

A friend of mine, a dapper, charming and attractive retired banker, many years older and wiser than I, said--"your life is about to change again. This next decade and beyond will be your most creative phase." He was right! What he didn't tell me is that we would later marry and I would discover a passion for traditional bead-makers and jewelry-making techniques from around the world.

I began taking courses in making jewelry, and started my business in Oct. of 2008. Since then, I've created over 500 pieces. I'm glad to be back in Santa Fe, where I'll stay for the rest of my life.

New Mexico is a culturally endlessly fascinating place to live! Witness the mural of Truchas. It has so many differing elements in it, creating a rich, colorful complexity. My style is about color, complexity, and combining differing elements together to create something new-- logical yet unpredictable at the same time. This is how I've lived my life, it's how I write poetry, and it applies to my jewelry as well. I'm an avid fan of contemporary painting, and I've studied the nature of how colors interact and influence one another. As a result, when it comes to color, I have an eye for it.

B.Bold was born out of passion, but it was also born out of necessity. Many women in their fifties and above have difficulty shopping for a proper wardrobe. How easy is it for us to find appropriate clothes that don't cost a bundle? Most clothes I see are made for size 2 teens, and I come away from most boutiques feeling discouraged. Don't you?

I've decided to rebel against shopping for clothes. (I've always had a rebellious streak. . .) Won't you join me? With the economy the way it is, why not rely on old favorite classics that fit well and are well-made? Why not accessorize with bold and beautiful jewelry that LASTS? Clothes wear out. Jewelry doesn't. Most of my friends have simplified their lives and style. The custom here is to wear simple basic clothes and beautiful jewelry.

So, Boomer Girls, I bring my jewelry to you! I hope you enjoy it. I believe that if you wear it, you'll feel and look like a million bucks. Your neutral wardrobe will be the perfect accessory, and you'll find yourself wearing the same trusted outfits again and again. Your new B.BOLD jewelry will change your look, kicking it up a notch!

I hope that this new, exciting bold & tasteful jewelry will do for you what it does for me-- reassure me that I'm still a beautiful and vibrant woman, just like you! Life is just beginning for us!

Best wishes--

Marcia Southwick

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIALS:

"I received my bracelet today and it is even more beautiful than I expected, thank you so much. Also thanks for the extra surprise again, I will wear them often. I can't wait to wear the whole ensemble on Saturday at our block party. They will be a hit."-- Bonnie

"Squeeee! Yes, this means I got my B.Bold. The size of the bracelet is perfect. I'm so thrilled because I always see bracelets that I like but can't wear because they're too big. No more boring "stretch" bracelets for me. . . Thanks again for all your work. Take care, and I'll be in touch". ~LeAnn

"I received my necklace today and I LOVE it!!!!!
It is exactly as you described -- and the earrings gift was
totally unexpected and very much appreciated...
I have a miserable cold, and it was such an uplift to receive
your package so promptly. When I am up and about again, I'll snap and send a digital photo and you will see how perfect it is for my coloring and personality. Many, many thanks -- for such a wonderful piece of wearable art
and your assistance for my first B.Bold purchase."--
Nancy

"If I were rich, you'd be rich!"--Martha

"I have for years predominantly worn vintage costume, and other vintage, jewelry because the craftsmanship often rivalled that of fine jewelry of the period, and much of contemporary jewelry is boring and not well made. Your pieces break that mold as the craftsmanship is excellent, but also the combination of stones/material is wonderful."--Janet

'Thank you for the earrings they are beautiful. I love my silver and turquiose necklace. I didn't realize the turquiose was on both sides. I am never disapointed in your jewelry. Keep up the great quality." -- Martha

Thank you so much. My wife loved the necklace and the earrings were a very special touch.
Dave

"The necklaces are absolutely beautiful and thank you for the lovely gift of the earrings. I am delighted and in awe of the exquisite workmanship of the Thai beads, what intricate workmanship.I really appreciated the history which you sent. It has been a pleasure doing business with you and who know, if I see another unique piece of yours, I might well snap it up. Thanks once again for my lovely treasure."-- Anne

"I just received my package and I love everything!! The amazonite necklace is so elegant and the "over the rainbow" necklace is just great - it's really fun. It has all of my favorite colors.I also love the earrings - they will be a wonderful gift for my niece. Thank you also for the bracelets. They are so colorful and I'll wear them with great pleasure. . ."--Inez

"The bracelet has arrived and it is very beautiful,
rich but simple. Thank you for the little presents, you
should'nt have..." -- Agnes

"I safely received my lovely purchases! They are even more unique and gorgeous in real life! Thanks so much for the lovely earrings! They do go so well with both necklaces! I'm sure I will receive alot of compliments on my jewelry! I love them! It's been a pleasure doing business with you! I'm sure you'll see me again in your shop."-- Yvonne

"Received the package from you. I love everything! That necklace of antiqued gold Bali beads is especially gorgeous, and did you realize (I'm sure you did) that it layers wonderfully with the other necklace with similar beads as well as the Venetian foil and amethyst Swarovski beads? The two of those look like they were made to go together - and the earring are perfect as well. I love the gold wood beads as well. I had actually bought two of those necklaces as gifts, but now I don't know...!"

Quite remarkable how your creative way with words overflows into your creative way with jewels! Many many thanks for making this Boomer girl's jeans and white shirts look so great! -- Janet
