Dating from the late 1700's, these highly decorated figural bottles are considered "Old Paris Porcelain" and, although not marked, are in the style of and may be products of Jacob Petit or his company. Both figures, man and woman, are seated on matching lavender cushions which are banded in gold. Both figures are bottles, having small openings banded in gold measuring about 1/4" in diameter at the top of their heads. However, they were designed to look like figurines rather than bottles, since their turbans mask the openings unless looked at from above. She wears a white turban flecked with gold, the end trailing onto her shoulder. Her pale orange jacket has wide sleeves with lemon yellow inside. Her gown is light turquoise decorated in gold. A pink sash around her waist ties in front. She wears "harem pants" of white with gold dots and coral shoes with points that curve upwards. One arm is bent and a lovely white and purple dove sits on her hand. She rests her elbow on a coral pillow trimmed in gold and a tassel. The male is dressed in matching colors but with different embellishments. Like the woman, his facial features are exquisite. His open robe appears to be the same material as her jacket, but his has a large white collar He has a white shirt with gilt decorations, a coral sash and light turquoise loose-fitting pants with gold embellishments, fitted at the ankle to reveal his pointed and upturned coral shoes. Both bottles are glazed. They are both 4 3/4" high. Her base is about 2 1/2" square while his is 2 1/2" by 2 3/4". I haven't done justice to the superb decorative details, colors and gilt work on these pieces. Please feel free to email me for more pictures or details. Both pieces are in fine condition - no crazing, chips, repairs, cracks....There is a very small bit of wear in one or two spots....the top of the gold form at the man's foot next to his coral pillow is missing a tiny amount of gold. His beard has 2 tiny white spots I cannot honestly attribute to his going gray, but can attribute to the "old age" of these two bottles -- about 200+ years old. Thanks for your interest. This is a very special pair.
