Normally I don't find fish beautiful, but this delicate bottle with its intricate details just appeals to me. 7" from the opening in its mouth to to tip if its tail fin, this little fish could be a carp or goldfish like the one's people keep in garden pools. This bottle does not appear to be glazed or is very lightly glazed since it has a matte finish. With his mouth wide open, it almost looks as if he tried to swallow a flower pot! The opening is round and 3/4" in diameter. The fish is identical on both sides. Black irises can be seen in his round indented eyes. Lines can be seen around his mouth and gills can be found behind his eyes. His body is covered with tiny overlapping scales. His top fin is notched and has incised diagonal lines indicating the proper structure and these lines are also evident in his tail and in the 2 fins coming from his underside which are on both sides of the body. The color is predominantly a coral or orange. It fades into and changes to a pale yellow or tan about 3/4 of the way down the sides The bottom is flat white bisque and unmarked except for the numbers"5251" incised into the base. These are most likely mold numbers. It is 1 3/4" at its tallest point and measures 1 1/8" wide. It is made from light or thin porcelain. The inside of the spout at least is white and glazed, as is perhaps the entire interior. I would guess that this was made in Germany. It has been in my family since the mid-1950's so I feel safe in saying it is at least 50 years old. It is in mint condition. I can find no repairs, chips or cracks.
