This is a fiction book; 'The Streets of Ascalon' by Robert W. Chambers and illustrated by Charles Dana Gibson, so popular for the Gibson Girls. This book is not in good shape. Its spine is worn and the back edge is torn from top to bottom and was once held together with tape. It has the old owners name in pencil inside the front cover and the title page is loose, if there were any blank pages before the title page, they are gone. This was published by D. Appleton and Company, 1912, New York and London. I believe this to be a first edition. There are 29 illustrations, all in black and white. The pages are clean and unbent with the exception of the illustration page next to page 416 which is beginning to tear out at the top and has bent in the top two inches where the page has loosened. Page 121 ia almost all loosened off. Also between page 424 and the next blank page which is the back of an illustration, it looks like there were several insects pressed between the pages that left several small stains. There are no pages missing except as otherwise described. The front of the cover at the bottom also has a dark spot that looks like a cigarette burn mark. The book measures 5 1/8" by 7 1/2" with 441 pages. I have this book listed at a high price because of its being a first edition and the number of illustrations. It it were in better condition it would be worth much more. Happy Collecting!!!
