This is a lovely little Satsuma Japanese vase with pastels in the backgrounds. This vase measures 6 3/16" tall and 2 5/16" in diameter. The ground is a pale peach, the mountains are a pale blue, while the sky is portrayed in the pale peach again. The people's trousers are light yellow and pale greyish blue. The only deep color is the dark rusty red that you see so often on Satsuma, especially later pieces. There is some but not alot of gilding. The piece is accented with raised white and red dots, area outlines, and teardrops. While the piece was being made, someone was not being careful as you will see red specks and splotches in places where they should not be. It looks like there may be a maker's mark on the bottom ridge but it is unreadable. The piece is over all crazed as Satsuma is but not as finely crazed as much of the finer Satsuma I have seen. There are no chips, cracks, dings or other damage to the piece. I would date it from the early 20th Century. Happy Collecting!!
