These are a pair of Kyoto Satauma Mirror Image Vases. Here is what we found out in 1988 when we wrote in to the Antique Trader about them. They measure 16 1/4" tall and 8" in diameter. They have Solizon Foliated Panels in colored enamels. They appear to be one of the styles of the Kinkozan Company. They were made in the Meiji Period, 1885. They have Sprigged on Birds and Bamboo, but they are damaged. Several of the birds have broken wings. Some of the bamboo is also broken. Even with the damage in 1988 they were worth from $1,200.00 to $1,500.00 for the pair. I am told by experts that they are worth at least that today if not more. The second vase, the one with the raccoon or cat at the bottom of one of the panels does have a makers mark impressed to the bottom rim of the jar. I have photographed it for you. The body of the vases are in good condition with no chips, cracks, scratches or other damage. It is just the attached bamboo and birds that have suffered. These are truly beautiful!!
