This solid glass figural depicts a ring neck pheasant standing on what appears to be rocks with berries or grain on the sides. Well detailed from the crested head to the ruffled neck, long talons and tail.
According to Glass Animals by Dick and Pat Spenser, this figurine was reissued by Imperial Glass 1964-1967 from the original Heisey Molds. This one, however, is the original Heisey issue. These were seldom marked, and this one is not. However, it floresces under blacklight, which according to the Spensers (p. 46) indicates Heisey as the maker.
This lovely bird is in good condition with just a few tiny nicks on the base, some age appropriate base wear and a rough area on the back tip of the base. (see photos) I've also provided a close up of the tip of the tail which has some heat checks that occurred at the time of manufacture.
A perfect gift for that bird lover or hunter in your life.
