Here is a beautiful flint glass, open pontil piece.

The decanter measures 9 7/8" tall with the stopper affixed, and 8" with it removed. It is approximately 3 7/8" across the base.

The lip is a flared application, with the entire bottle composed of flint glass.

A round scarred open pontil is in the center on the rayed and ringed (type II) base.

The size is a quart, with the word SCOTCH embossed inside an area that is encircled by snakes.

I have located all my information on this item, from the following reference book : * American Glass by George S. and Helen McKearin *

This decanter is referenced in several places in McKearins book as the GIV-7 pattern.

It dates from the 1830's, and was noted as produced by the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company in Massachusetts.

A picture of this decanter, with the exact same blown stopper, can be found on page 258 of McKearin's book.

Additional data on this specific example is found also in McKearin's book, on page 297.

This piece is in excellent condition, with no damage or staining noted at all.

This is a great piece of early American glassware, which should not ignored.
