MOP Mother of Pearl, Darker Tone With Rolled Gold Parasol Handle

We don't often see this darker color of mother of pearl. I did some reading about mother of pearl in general and found that there is a MOP made from the black pearl oyster that if correctly cut produces a 'cat's-eye' look. This could be it, maybe yes, maybe no.

No matter what type of mollusk shell it is made of it's very pretty. It measures 9.5" overall with the ornate rolled gold and MOP part is 7" of that 9.5". The knob on the end is 1.5". It is beautifully chased and engraved with delicate swirls and even has a place or two where you could have your initials engraved. Better yet...have it engraved for your sweetie and made into a cane!

The MOP is applied in bands that spiral down the handle shaft interspersed by the gold. There are some imperfections in the MOP, the largest of which I have pictured. There is a tear in the metal where the handle was removed from the parasol...and some use and age related 'antique' scratches on the knob end. There are no markings of any kind.
