This is technically called a TV lamp, but if I were a collector of Florence Figurines I would put it in my bedroom for a night light.
This graceful figurine sits serenely atop a faux marble column, quietly reading a letter. The letter is "readable" and starts out..."Dear Ruth, I miss you so much...." I love the soft green coloring on her dress and the darker little pumps she is wearing. Her hair is the softest of brown and her face is, of course, very nicely painted.
Florence Ceramics were located in Pasadena, California. As most collectors of California ceramics and pottery know, World War II and the assistance that our government gave Japan to rebuild their economy put most of the United States potteries out of business. California had many wonderful artists doing great ceramics and pottery until some short years after the end of the war.
This lovely and rare item was probably produced in the early 1950's as a TV lamp. With the popularity and availability of television after the war, many companies made lamps to view television by. It was commonly said, at that time that, to view television in total darkness would harm ones eyes. Thus the little lamps with small wattage bulbs would sit on the top of the television set to add soft light to the room. Things have certainly changed!
"Ruth" sits a full 9.5" tall overall with the figure alone being 8 inches. She sits on a base that is 7.5" wide and the depth is 5 inches. The lamp may need some simple re-wiring as I noticed parts of the cord seem to be a little stiff. She works just fine as she is but re-wiring would be a safety precaution. The figurine itself and all other ceramic parts are in pristine condition...no chips, cracks or breaks. not even one "flea" bite!
"Ruth" would look wonderful in your boudoir or in your collection!
If you have any questions please email me. Thanks!
