Universal Pottery, Old Holland Silhouette Dancers Cup and Saucer

Charming Colonial Couple silhouetted on this Universal Pottery, Old Holland cup and saucer. The dancers greet each other on an ivory background with an embossed rim. Inside the cups, the gentleman presents the delighted lady with a bouquet, while on the saucers their hands are clasped as they begin the Minuet. Manufactured by Universal Potteries from 1934 through sometime in the 1940's, the embossed rim features a village with a windmill, a family sitting down to dinner, and several scrolls and flourishes all around the rim. The pattern is known as Old Holland. Each saucer measures 6 inches in diameter. The cups are 3 7/8 inches in diameter, 4 1/2 with the handle, and 2 1/4 inches deep. Each saucer is marked with the gold circular backstamp that reads: "Old Holland Ware" with a Windmill in the center of the circle. "Universal-Cambridge, Ohio, Made in U.S.A." around the perimeter of the circle, completes the mark. Each saucer is in very good condition, with some minor wear on the decals. The cups are also in good condition, though one has a 1/8 inch chip on the outside edge and the other has a 1/4 inch hairline that is nearly imperceptible.
