Evidently a very similar jug to this was commissioned by the Archbishop of Canterbury. Storr was known to make more than one example for important commissions and it is thought that this piece was one of them. I quote the Ambassador on this and I cannot confirm but in taking a close look at the details, notably the Angel and Goats, there does seem support for his statement.
The jug is magnificent! Highly detailed and beautifully textured it features two sculpted goats atop the rim behind the pouring spout and a glorious angel on the ornate handle.
The jug stands just under 7" high and is 5" across the belly.
CONDITION: Excellent antique condition. No damage to note. Appropriate Storr Hallmarks including the Lion Passant, date etc on the neck and the handle. A Storr and Mortimer Hallmark also appears at the back of the base. Georgian, circa 1826. London.
PLEASE NOTE: At the direction of my client, the price is firm and offers on this piece will not be considered. Thank you.
