Hundreds of tiny steel beads have been cut and woven to make up a lovely geometric pattern with silver & copper or bronze beads on a rich off white background of literally thousands of micro beads. The carrying chain is copper to accentuate the bronze beads in the bag. The fringe and one single top drop from the frame are beautifully appointed of solid brass.
Nicely engraved gilt frame with a push button closure.
The bag appears to be in its' original gross grain silk lining, also in a light beige color. An original "Made in France" tag has blurred through the years but remains intact and visible.
This purse measures a very wearable 7" long (including the 1/2" drop fringe) x 5" across the top of the frame. The carrying chain is doubled to support the weight of the bag (steel and glass beads both have considerable weight) is 14" long rising 6" from the top of the frame. It can be worn as a shoulder bag by sliding the chain to a single position and it then rises to a full 11".
CONDITION: Excellent antique condition. No tears or missing beads. Lining is fully intact and clean. Push Top seems slightly off-keel but functions well to open the bag. France, late 1800's.
A fine little bag that will go with just about anything.
