This is an exceptional Collector's or Cake plate designed by Emile Puiforcat and executed by the esteemed Porcelaine Maker, Charles Field Haviland in Limoges, France.

The award winning CHANKAI exhibits Puiforcat's intrigue of early Japanese & Chinese porcelain and that influence is clearly present in this example. Though The House of Puiforcat is best known for their outstanding sterling silver pieces, Jean Michel worked in collaboration with Charles Haviland, Hermes, Lalique and others to produce special limited edition Collections outside the world of Metal Arts. He also collaborated with some of the prestige fashion designers of the period creating fabric art accessory pieces. The House of Puiforcat (still in existence) has always catered to Europe's elite. Today his Works are highly sought after around the globe.

A delicate and very beautiful scene includes birds, butterflies and exquisite Chinese florals. Hand coloured, CHANKAI items run the full range of an unusual colour palette featuring very subtle greys, blues, terra cotta (referred to as "red" in the dinnerware series), yellow & black. Finally, it is tastefully punctuated in fine Gold Leaf!

The plate measures 10.5" with a perfectly flat surface running 9.5" to meeting a gently raised rim. The pictures are good, but don't do the plate justice!

CONDITION: Pristine. Markings on reverse: CH. FIELD HAVILAND LIMOGES (printed within the Haviland round logo). Below the logo: LIMOGES FRANCE. These Hallmarks are followed by the Label de Qualite (printed within the Crown of Excellence). Finally, below the others is the Puiforcat signature and title: modele PUIFORCAT CHANKAI COREE 18 EME SIECLE.

Whether you have other pieces in this Collection or just appreciate exceptional porcelaine, this will surely find a prominent place in your home!

*** There is a dinner series that correlates with this and was later marketed as Chan Kai (2 words). It does not feature the hand colouring and has no Gold Leaf detailing. (NOTE THE LAST PHOTOGRAPH. This is an example of the dinnerware - for reference only). The dinnerware pieces are safe for the dishwasher. THIS COLLECTOR'S PIECE IS PERFECTLY DURABLE FOR USE BUT - IT IS NOT DISHWASHER SAFE.
