Exquisite Carved Whitby Jet Georgian Mourning Brooch, Gold Mount

An exceptional hand carved Jet Mourning Pin with fine hair weaving in a Memento Mori glazed back.

The center plaque carving is set atop the Memento Mori while the surrounding pieces are are each in closed back gold mounts.

The pin measures 1 3/8" wide x 1" high.

CONDITION: Overall remarkable antique condition! The carving of the Jet is exceptional. No losses to the Jet, just a reflection from the angle I shot at. Mount is pristine. Condition issues are age appropriate and include a deep surface scratch to the glazed case & some deterioration at the edging near the mount at the back of the brooch and age related deterioration to 1 side of the t bar mount, which does not affect the function of the broaching mechanism. These age related issues are enlarged in the photographs. As noted above, the stickpin is a replacement. Mount tests to 10K , circa 1700's.
