The pieces feature polished and carved center stones on unpolished and tooth carved backdrops for an exquisite result!
Bold and dramatic, the earrings measure 2 full inches in length and are just over 3/4" at their widest. They are on their original silver fish hooks now encrusted with age. These fine earrings deserve to have gold replacement hooks - but as they are in original condition, I will wait until I have the buyer's permission before I have them changed.
The brooch measures 1 3/4" x 1 1/4" and is approximately 1/2" proud. Also bearing its' original c clasp broaching mechanism with the extended pin. I believe these are brass but have not acid tested. It does appear that the pin holder has been re-enforced or glued at some quite early point as it is neat but rather crude. In any case, they remain fully functional!
A faint impression on the back of the brooch and one of the earrings are evidence of pressure marks from fossilized ammonites or selemnites adds an interesting note.
A wonderful, very light weight set - so rarely found!
CONDITION: Excellent antique condition with minor signs of wear. Two "teeth" on the brooch may be worn - or could have been carved shorter than the others. Earring wires should really be replaced. Mid 1800's. Whitby, England.
