Welcome to 2009!
The case is attached with the original cord and large Carnelian Ojime to the leather Tobacco Pouch (Kamasu).
The case boasts a gorgeous (now blackened) sterling clasp (Kanemono) attached by high carat gold nails.
Measurements: Case 8.75" closed. Pouch: 3" x 4.75" x .75".
CONDITION: Very good antique condition consistent with age and use. The Deer Skin leather pouch shows expected wear and an early, quite crude repair to the reverse. Clasp closes securely and is beautifully sculpted. Ojime orb is hand carved and large, measuring 1.5" across. It is free of cracks, nicks or damage. The pipe case is of superb quality and workmanship remaining in good antique condition with age appropriate wear. Very slight warping to 2 areas of bamboo strips. Higher than 18K gold rim and loop. 19th Century, Japan.
