BRAMELD, Rockingham, Swinton, Yorkshire, c.1810-1820
Rockingham Works, Swinton, Yorkshire. This pottery is more correctly names “Swinton Pottery” until 1826. John & Wm. Brameld became proprietors in 1806. In 1813, William died and pottery direction was assumed by Thomas, George & John, sons of Wm. The factory was located on the estate of the Marquis of Rockingham, so once again, as in 1745, the pottery took the name ‘Rockingham Works’. Financial disaster caused the closing in 1842, and the end to all porcelain and earthenware manufacturing.
MARKS: Beautiful cartouche with "Castle of Rochefort, South of France" in script and BRAMELD+1 incised.
CONDITION: Absolutely stunning transferware medium large platter from one of the finest transferware blue & white makers of the early 19th century. NO chips, cracks, repairs. Excellent shine to glaze
