PATTERN: View of the Imperial Park at Gehol (scene taken from John Barrow's "Travels in China" published by T. Cadell & W. Davies in 1806). Printed in a dark-medium blue, Chinoiserie design. The rim border appears like connected shells with floral and Oriental motif border design. Potted by Davenport in blue transfers under glaze.

MARK: "Davenport" in lower-case letters, no curve, no anchor. Godden Mark 1179: 1793-1810 period.

SIZE: Adorable size! Perfect for after-dinner mints or sweet meats. Almost 3-1/2" high; bowl depth about 1-1/2". 6-1/4 by 4-3/4". Pedestal base, no foot ring, with center recess going all the way up to the bowl.

CONDITION: Blue glaze but earthenware body. 3 old base flakes & a newer flea bite, pattern side. Under side of base has additional 2 old flakes and a nibble. Mould lines on either side of pedestal base, under-glaze, with no separation but a slight discoloration on one side near that seam. Inner well face-side has a dark kiln speck and a blue line of misplaced transfer dye. A few utensil scratches and a few kiln dust specks, colorless, under glaze. Good clean creamy ground and charming transfer scene. Imperfect transfer placement on the outer rim border design. 2 more years, maybe less, and this reaches the age of 200. A wonderful find in good condition with NO cracks, NO repairs and fine color.

Item ID: c.2
