A tad over 3-1/2" high, this was sold to me by a U.K. antique dealer as a child's teapot. I think it may be an adult toy tea pot for display. It is fine porcelain with a Japan-like pattern in moss-green prints or transfers, with gilding added over the glaze. The Wedgwood mark is upper case with the famous vase also in the muted green. Godden Mark 4091: "Printed mark on porcelains from c. 1878." The little pot does not have inner strainer holes, but one large circular hole. Any Wedgwood expert who recognizes the pattern and the intended use for this diminutive beauty, please email. Fits in beautifully with an English Toy China Collection.
CONDITION: NO real damage, NO repairs. Severe gilt loss and rubbing to the spout with here-and-there gilt loss on the helmet or parapet flange and down the handle. Gilt loss to the lid's finial and around its opening flange. With spout to the right, there are 2 heat spots at the waist.
The pattern on the lid is of fruit blossoms and fruit. The pot pattern's fruit appears to be cherries with cherry blossoms. The spout is beautiful hand-decorated in a gold design. This is just an adorable little tea pot.
