The handle is unlike anything I've seen with a cute smiling creature's head, scaly back and separated two legs fastened to the jug by one 6-fingered paw with long nails (probably one version of the Serpent handle or perhaps the Dolphin), the other having 5 fingers and only 2 fingernails! The two central scenes (a city with carriage, horse, and 8 people; Princess Royal & Prince of Prussia) are framed in squiggly brush stokes of flow blue topped with copper lustre. The rim, below rim, collar, serpent head, handle, legs, and circle flow blue designs are topped also with copper lustre. The nearly flat bottom is marked only with a lustre hand painted "137".
This fascinating jug is in near mint condition. I find light crazing only on the inside pitcher's rim along with 2 pin point dots. The handle has 2 kiln dust specks at its middle. The copper lustre embellishment is in almost new condition. This piece had to be cherished and protected inside a closed cupboard! Excellent shiny glaze and but for a knee area (of the leg with 6 toes) 2 old surface chips and glaze mild crackling around the King's head. Considering its age, I rate this remarkable historical porcelain flow blue lustre jug as being a 9.5 out of 10! It should be noted that the photographs eliminate most of the lustre....It is in reality, atop every flow blue decoration...it just does not photograph well as it is too reflective. Guarantee you'll be pleased with this one....it's better than the photographs show!
