A very interesting, early flow blue plate with a Gothic Arch rim and well-frame design. Lovely blue backstamp sun-burst cartouche containing the pattern name, "Gothic Bead" with an upper-case "D" (for Thomas Dimmock, Shelton, England, in business 1828-1860). This is a rare pattern similar to the early "feather-edge" types and not found in Gaston, Snyder and Petra Williams' Flow Blue books. It is in excellent condition with NO damage, NO repairs, NO discolorations, NO crazing. In-the-making flaws include a number of kiln dust specks under glaze and a few little dye smears. The slightly scalloped rim is smooth to the touch but for one rubbing area where the plate probably stood upright on display. Foot ring with slightly recessed bottom.
9-1/4" in diameter. Heavy earthenware or stoneware.
