Pictured in A Schiffer Book for Collectors: 200 YEARS OF PLAYTIME POTTERY & PORCELAIN bu Lorraine Punchard, p22, top-right. Punchard says: "SCOTT" is impressed on each saucer. Southwick Pottery, Sunderland, Durham used (the mark) from 1838 to 1883. The style of the pieces should date the set about the 1840s. It is interesting to have a matching coffee pot & a tea pot in the same set. It is hand-painted with red and green designs. Early features on this set are the wide lip on the creamer, and the deep-dish saucers.

The "deep-dish saucers" must have looked like fruit bowls over the years, and got separated from this set. Pieces in this set: COFFEE POT and LID, TEA POT and LID, SUGAR and LID, CREAMER, SLOP BOWL, 3 CUPS (no saucers).

The Coffee Pot is 6.25" high; the Tea Pot is 3.75" high. The 2 pots and sugar have pedestal foot bases with deeply recessed bottoms. The other pieces have foot rings with mildly recessed bottoms. The Slop Bowl is 2.5" high with a rim span of 4.2". The Coffee Pot has an acorn shaped finial; both sugar and teapot have mushroom shaped. The ceramic is warm and soft to the touch.

Condition: One CUP has 2 hairlines rim downward, a 2nd cup has a 1/4" hairline rim downward just inside the cup not penetrating to the pattern side. The CREAMER has kiln specks in the well and a small, old surface flake on the rim & one on the handle. The SUGAR has inner ledge nibbles and discolored circles in the well. Perhaps solid sugar was left inside over many years? The LID has NO damage, NO repair. The TEAPOT LID has rubbing to the finial tip and rim and a 1/4 side hairline, arc shaped, which does not penetrate to the under-side rim. The POT has inner ledge flea-bites and 2 rim old darkened flakes. Rubbing to the spout rim and a teensy darkened flake. The COFFEE POT LID is perfect. The POT has well discoloring from something having been left in it. I'm quite sure it would clean out. Minor ledge rubbing and nibbles & a flake to the spout lip. All pieces are a good, clean, creamy-white ground with hand enameling looking bright and in excellent condition. NO crazing, NO pattern-side discoloring. NO repairs. NO restorations. A WONDERFUL set....very rare and just adorable on display.

If an International buyer wants this set, it can be packed in two separate boxes. Please email for postal charges, International Airmail First Class.
