Textured with heavy imposto, this early 20th century painting captures a strikingly dark forest scene. It is signed by the artist on the lower right, but the only words I can make out are "Miller" and 1914. I could not capture this black signature on the dark green with my camera.

Professionally framed, its condition shows that some paint layers are cupping, which is typical of early American oil paintings.

It measures 32 1/2 inches across and 26 1/2 inches high.
