This dresser set once belonged to the famous Jean Harlow. I took this to the Antiques Roadshow and Gary Sohmers appraised this historical set. The value could go much higher at the right auction. She had it in her dressing room at the studio. This set is by Pereline in the 30's and very Art Deco. The person I bought it from purchased it from the Silver Screen Film Society Auction ( Actors helping Actors). Miss Harlow was considered the blond bomb shell way before Miss Monroe was known as such.
The dresser set is in wonderful used condition other then the small round mirror which is broken and can be replaced as the frame is intact. I always say that Miss Harlow must have been upset and broke it. The case is in fair condition considering it's age. There are stains and small tears and such on the outside but it is still a important piece of the past. There is a letter from the Silver Screen Film Society stating this is in fact Miss Harlow's set.
The mirror is 13 1/4" inch long. The mirror is beveled and is 5 5/8"by 4 1/2"inch there is some black spots in it and at the top and bottom there is also some black. But remember this is old. Both the brushes have some bristles missing. The hair brush is 10" inches and the clothes brush is 7 7/8" inches. There is also a shoe horn and small scissors as well as two small jars ( one of which has a small crack on the side of the lid) that screw on and of course the large powder jar, and small swivel mirror and a comb. They are done a gold tone metal and in the center are oval disc with black enamel with gold flowers. Some of the pieces have surface scratches, which is normal as it was used by Miss Harlow.
The case has a lot of wear to the top which shows in the picture. The case measures 26 3/4" inches by 13 1/4" inches, it is made out of a shiny gold paper and the other is sort of a off white with designs. The hinges and clasp work fine. Please remember this is not in perfect condition and has been storage since her death in 1937 at the age of 26 years old.
