This is a wonderful antique, gold aurene or favrile art glass open salt cellar. Aurene or Favrile glass, Favrile glass was patented by Louis Comfort Tiffany in 1894, refers to a golden color which almost has a gilded look and iridescent surface. It is brilliant and splendid. The glass reminds me very much of early carnival glass because of the depth and iridescence of the color. There is a circular base and the top opening has a pinched lip, giving a serpentine or scalloped effect. You can see touches of pink and blue metallic overlay and the color seems changeable depending on the light, background and how you move it. The salt cellar is in excellent vintage condition. It is dated to circa 1896-1919 and measures approximately 2 1/2" across by 1 1/4" high by 3/4" deep. On the back is etched L.C.T. which is a well known marking for Louis Comfort Tiffany. This fabulous and unusual piece is beyond lovely. There are two salt cellars and the price is per unit but if you choose to buy both at the same time we will lower the price to $700.00.
