Positively stunning creation by Coro with one of their most famous and collectible designs. The metal is 18K gold plated with an incredibly bright polished finish, all the stones are brilliant and original and the enameling is in perfect condition.
Each side of the brooch features a spray of small flowers made with diamente rhinestones, and two enameled emerald green leaves accented with tiny white stones run down the "stem" of the leaf. A bow designed with bright red baguettes and white diamente stones is in the center.of two larger flowers. These flowers have polished 18K gold plated outer petals with red rhinestone "petals" accented with a white diamente rhinestone center. These little flowers are attached to the brooch with a very thin coiled wire that makes them "quiver" when they are touched.
Each of the separated clips measure 1 1/4" x 1 1/2" and when connected and worn as a brooch, it measures 2 3/4" side to side x 1 1/2" high. The back is signed Coro Duette in slanted script and the Patent Number 1798867 that I believe dates the design to the 1930's or early 1940's.
Other Duette Quivering Camellias can still occasionally be found but this size, design, colors and the excellence of the condition makes this one an absolute collector's dream as well as a VERY savvy investment. For a wealth of information on the Duette Quivering Camellias, I would highly recommend "Coro Jewelry A Collector's Guide" by Marcia "Sparkles" Brown, available at any major book store.
