If this gorgeous handcrafted piece isn't a vase, then I honestly don't know what it was used for. It's from a 1943 estate collection of sand art vases and the owners told me that it has been in their family since the late 30's & that it was a gift to their mother before they were born. It is in totally excellent condition, the design is a very unique combination of porcelain and sand art and the craftsmanship is heirloom quality.

It measures 3" high and rounds out to the bottom at 4 inches and a 2 1/4 inch circular opening at the top. Two "handles" are attached to the sides, the interior is polished white porcelain and (with the exception of the rose) the exterior surface is covered in tan-colored sand with a rough finish.

The rose in the center of the front is nothing short of Spectacular! Each petal is 3-dimensional for a very realistic large desert rose in full bloom softly shaded in pink and white. The leaves are variegated green with shades of dark orange to light yellow with black lines detailing the veins and two tiny rose buds extend on the upper right. The porcelain is almost an anomaly against the gritty sand finish but it's so very beautiful that, somehow, it all comes together & creates a work of art that stands out alone or in any collection.

It's one of those true one-of-a-kind special creations that claims full attention in any collection and is a GORGEOUS way to show off your rose cuttings.
