Antique 18th Century carved Tortoise shell, turtle, snuff box! Geometric carving on the top. It has a hinged opening. The hinge and eyes are made from a white metal. I tested the metal and it was nonreactive. It isn't silver, lead, nickel, or other common white metal. It even resisted the 18k gold test. The metal may be 24k white gold or Platinum. The body with head, legs, and tail is carved from a single piece of shell, as are the top and bottom. There is a hole in the neck to hang from a chain.

The box measures about 2 3/4 inches from head to tail. It measures 2 inches wide for flipper to flipper. The body alone measures about 2 1/8 inches, by 1 5/8 inches. It is in very good condition for its age. The bottom looks to have come loose and was glued back on, it is a little off center.
