The body and lid are redware and are glazed. The body has a reddish-brown hue. The lid has a white tin/manganese glaze. This is the original top. The body's bottom rim has the same glaze too.
It dates no earlier than the 1800's, may ever be 1700's. It is unmarked aside for the "1." It measures about 9 inches across the bottom. The opening measures about 8 1/4 inches in diameter. The lid measures about 8 3/4 inches. It is about 6 1/4 inches tall.
It is in very good condition, especially for its age. The bottom is solid and strong. No major chips. Tiny flea bite here and there that can be seen in the photos. No cracks or damage that I can see. There is a second(glazed over chip, part of the manufacturing process) on the bottom rim.
The lid is a battered beauty. It is very hard to find the crocks of this age with the lids, so I think it is great to even have the lid! But, it has a large crack, two larger chips on the under-rim, and the handle is chipped. All shown in photos.
An oldie and a goodie! I love the bird and feather motif! Tons of cobalt decoration! This crock will bump up any primitive antique collection!
