Of all the many outstanding portraits and genre paintings by this artist, this must surely be one of his very best. The depth of character and detail is quite astonishing in such a small painting.

PROVENANCE: Private collection, London.

CONDITION: Excellent, no damage or defects. No re-touching or over-painting visible under UV light.

FRAME: Good ornate gilt gesso with dark wood sleeve; 29 x 25cm.
