Fine antique, modern and contemporary pictures, portrait miniatures and sculpture at affordable prices
Condition: the gold-painted, composite frame (51 x 41cm) obscures some of the painting, including the signature (please compare our photographs of the painting both in and out of the frame); there are two small scuffs in the paint of the main body of the picture, above the dome, which could do with retouching. If the painting was re-framed to reveal it in full, some retouching and cleaning would be required at the edges.
Biography: Bernard Gribble studied at the South Kensington School of Art, under Albert Toft. He also spent some time studying in Belgium, before moving to London. He eventually settled in Dorset, where he became a resident artist producing portraits, architectural work and particularly marine scenes, often with historical events as subjects. He regularly exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1891.
