Elegant Victorian mourning necklace with black, French jet glass stones, set in silver plated brass collets and skillfully arrayed to drape across the neckline in swags.

It is in remarkable condition for its age with some wear to the silver plating which only adds to the antique appearance. Closes with a spring ring and measures 15"L

The Victorian era marked the reign of Queen Victoria from the early 1800's to 1901. When Prince Albert, the Queens beloved husband died of typhoid fever, the Queen was inconsolable and wore black till her death in 1901. For about the next 20 years mourning jewelry was the height of fashion and black was a stylish color for jewelry and worn for its beauty and sentiment.
