Great piece of history and folk art! This is an early Southern Railroad oil can that has been tole painted. Even with it painted you can still see SO. RY. on front side under spout. It is made of tin or some type light weight metal.

You can see where the paint has covered some underlying rust, but otherwise it is in good condition. It measures about 7" tall, not including the bail handle, and a bottom diameter of 6". Wonderful style of oil can and beautiful tole painted design!
