This beautiful hand painted plate was manufactured by Haviland and Cie, in Limoges, France. About 1852 Charles Field Haviland left the USA to work in Limoges. And in 1870 he started a porcelain manufacturing company, Haviland & Cie, which used the mark “Haviland & Co.” with an underscore above the letter L.

. The Antique Trader Price Guide and The Collectors Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain date the mark ca.1876-1889.

The plate measures 9-5/8" diameter and has a 1-1/2” wide border painted with a band of blue that could best be described as powder blue.

The center of this antique Limoges plate has a cheerful hand painted hilly floral lake-shore scene of yellow daisies, red tulips and whispers of wild oat nestled among shades of green grasses. The lake water reflects the delicate pale, blue clouds.

Condition is excellent for a piece that is over 119 years old. Wear is consistent with its age. Notable are manufacturing flaws in the form of a few dimples on the backside, or underside of the rim. Also, the powder blue paint is worn away in some places on the edge of the plate.

A beautiful and fabulous piece for display.
