9" Royal Cauldon "Baltimore Oriole Plate by Henry A Pausch

Beautiful intricate raised designs surround this lovely ironstone Bird Plate by Royal Cauldron, England's oldest pottery. This English plate features a Baltimore Oriole bird as it's central decoration. The bird is perched upon a branch of a Japanese Magnolia tree. The rich rose and white blossoms are in sharp contrast to the deep blue and yellow of the Oriole. The plate is one in a series of bird plates designed by Henry A. Pausch. His signature is present.

What is unique about this plate is the richly detailed raised designs along the 1 3/4" outer rim of the 9" plate. Lacy medallions with birds, cartouches of berries and cross hatched details surround the scalloped edges of the plate. The relief designs are clear and precise making each design easily recognizable. This type of quality is only found on the best quality of china.

The beautiful detail of the bird is outstanding. Much like an Audubon drawing, it is magnificent.

I feel these were made for display, although they are made of ironstone, making them functional as well.

The plate's smooth center is 5 1/2" wide, with the raised border area measuring 1 3/4". Condition is mint. Never used. They have been in a bird collection for years. It is of a high gloss transluscent quality.
