Superb Old Paris Celeste Blue Handpainted Hand Mirror

Unbelievably gorgeous! Quite possibly Sevres from the color and magnificent detail in the hand painted scene and gilt work. The unusual attention to detail is characteristic of the high quality produced in France in the mid 19th Century.

From the French Romantic Era, the scene depicts three Couples in a beautiful garden setting. The colors are absolutely lovely. Soft shades of blue, mauve, lavender, green and rust are absolutely striking against the lush garden greenery and background colors. Sevres style celeste blue frames the handpainted cartouche of the mirror's back.

The highly stylized bronze dore' mounting, consisting of garlands of ribbons and flowers, has a wonderful aged patina, lending itself to the authenticity of age to the piece. The round mirror is surrounded by a 1/4 bevel and is in fabulous condition. While it is a bit heavy, the mirror, handle and mounting are all sturdy and secure. I do not believe the mirror has ever been replaced.

The entire mirror is 15 1/4" in length, including handle. The mirror body is 6" round. Condition is superb. No damage to the painting, mirror or mountings. No attempt has been made to remove the porcelain plaque to check for markings.

What a fabulously beautiful hand mirror! It has all the bells and whistles one would expect to find in Old Paris porcelain. If I were a collector of hand mirrors, this beauty would never leave my possession. It is stunning. This piece would make a wonderful addition to a high quality collection. With Christmas just around the corner, who would not love getting a gift such as this.
