Old Milk Glass Divided Heart Shaped Box With Handpainted Flowers

Charming old milk glass divided box in lovely heart shape. Lidded box is divided into three sections for candy or small items. The white milk glass contains "fire" when held to light. It is heavy, weighing over 2lbs. The delicate 1" border of the lid is decorated with raised forget-me-not flowers, with gilt center buttons. An inner smooth heart, forming the center, is beautifully hand-painted with an assortment of flowers in a cascading affect. Colors are lovely shades of pink, green, blue and purple.

Size is 7 1/4" at widest, 8 1/2" from top to bottom. It is 2" deep. Condition is very nice. Only flaw is a crack line on the one side of an inside divider. Definitely doesn't detract from the look of or stability of the piece. Gilt on button centers of raised flowers around border is worn. No makers marks, only a round circle on the outer bottom, as many large depression pieces had.

I would date this to the depression era by its look and construction. It is very lovely.

Before we know it, Valentine's Day will be upon us. What a wonderful gift this would make for that special someone.
