SUMMER SALE! - We have vintage books, antique prints and handcrafted Jewelry
This is an exquisite engraving, etching drawn by J. A Fitzgerald in 1868 for the well known magazine of the time, The Illustrated London News. It is a page from the magazine and does have an article on the reverse side that I think is unrelated to the subject matter, but none the less adds to the charm of this very old, 16 x 11 inch, antique page.
The image shows a variety of fairies and little creatures leaving fairy gifts probably at Christmas time. It's beautifully drawn and highly detailed, the images are crisp and clear after all this time and the usual yellowing on the paper, which is usual for any paper of this age, only adds to the effect. On the right side is printed; The Illustrated London News, the date (Dec 19, 1868) and a page number (600). On the bottom of the image is the title of the piece and the artists name, printed. On the bottom, right hand side of the image itself is what looks like a stylized initial(s), presumably this was the artists signature. It is in very good condition for its age, and would look really gorgeous in a nice, antique look frame or a black edged frame that would complement the black and white of the image.
