Here is one such lady, depicted in fine detail on this Victorian Era handcarved shell cameo. It measures a unique almost-square 40 MM in width X 50 MM in length and is 6 MM in height, mounted, from the base of its pretty twisted-rope trim. Cameo is mounted in 10K GF.
This is a very dreamy-looking cameo, in perfect condition, worn as brooch only. Of particular interest is how the carver "framed" the portrait - note the modified-triangular detail, taking advantage of the white layer of the shell, in each corner - very unusual. Nice detail on folds in robe, grape leaves in hair. Coloration white on a cafe-au-lait background.
Dates from circa late-1800's; c-style clasp on back.
