SALE Vintage Framed Vejigante Mask~Signed by Artist 1969

This is a vintage Vejigante mask from Puerto Rico that measures 7 1/4" x 7 1/4" and is in great condition. A vejigante is a costumed character with Indian, European and African roots & is commonly used for Carnival, Hatillo's Mask Festival or Day of the Holy Innocents. The tradition of making these masks is strongest in coastal towns of Puerto Rico where African slave descendants originally settled. This mask is nicely framed, signed by "Lourdes '69" on the front. The back of the frame has a gold label that states "Vejigantes en Nueces Hecho en Puerto Rico Por Lourdes Rodriguez 892-0147. It is ready to hang in it's new home
