SALE Mexican Wood Sculpture~Signed~Single Piece of Wood

This is an incredibly detailed & finely carved sculpture of a mother with child (according to the label hand-written on the bottom) & a bird perched on her head (perhaps an eagle.) It is in wonderful, vintage condition. The patina is soft & beautiful. It stands 18 1/2" tall, 6" across and 4" wide (front to back). The detailing of hair, eyes, bird is sensational. I originally bought this piece at Stanford University's annual elephant sale many years ago. It is carved from one piece of wood. The signature on the back is "R Conti '69". The hair on the back of the head is finely detailed. There is a piece of paper glued to the bottom that states something in Spanish which I'm unable to translate but a friend told me it was something like "Mother with Child". This is a heavy & substantial piece because it is solid wood.
