This 64 page handbook is a wonderful photographic record of the remarkable Thorne collection of miniature rooms made in a scale of 3/4” to the foot. Published by the Art Institute of Chicago, 1943, there are 30 clear, sharp photographic images of such rooms as an English 1840 - 1870 drawing room, an English 1750 library, an English Tudor period Great Hall, a French c. 1800 bathroom, a c. 1920 French library, a c. 1750 German hallway.

There is text with each photographic image. Also there is an introduction explaining some of the collection’s history, and various presentations at the Golden Gate International Expo, and the 1939 New York World’s Fair. All text was written by Meyric R. Rogers, curator at the Art Institute.

The back cover is missing, and some pieces of the front cover missing. First page corner is torn. There is no intrusion to the text value of this handbook, however. The text and images of this remarkable achievement in the construction of this collection is not compromised.
